I have always felt a deep sense of connection to nature, and dreamed of living in the countryside that has relatively low levels of air and noise pollution; where I could grow my own vegetables and raise chickens and snails.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in December, 2019 and the world was under lockdown I was hit with the fear of what I would do to feed my family if the lockdown resulted in food shortage.
Right after the country was opened up for economic activity, I dived into finding arable land for my farm business. I purchased my 1st 10 acre piece of farmland in June, 2020 in Odeng – Oboase, a cocoa farming community close to Adeiso in the Upper West Akyim district. This was fraught with a lot of challenges such as dealing with our local custodians, coupled with the different groups of people who claim ownership to a piece of land. This journey opened my eyes to the vast difference of living standards between urban and rural settlements.
Even though I still live in the city with my family, the farm affords me the opportunity to travel to the countryside.
Later that same year in 2020, we established the Yellow sunrise plantations limited as a legal entity duly registered in the Republic of Ghana.
OUR MISSION
Using farming as a medium to women in the region, while promoting food security. We have also resolved to partner research institutions in setting up model farms across the country.
OUR VISION
Contribute to the growth and improvement of green agriculture globally
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Cultivating a culture of awareness and research.
Family is at the heart of our business and we are fortunate to spend our days working with passionate employees who share our mission of enhancing with us.
We value our humble beginnings and enjoy to see small businesses grow; and choose to support fellow farmers particularly women farmers and even companies led by diverse teams that align with our values.
We are committed to cultivating a culture of awareness and research.
We care deeply about the environment (soil, water and climate) and are committed to green farming to promote biodiversity and not contaminate the environment with chemical inputs and genetic engineering.
It is our intention to use the farm to empower women in the region while promoting food security; and enhance research by setting up model farms and partnering with research institutions.
Current operations include a mixed crop farm of maize and pawpaw at Asikasu, a cocoa plantation in Odeng; and a palm plantation in Obeng-Yaw; all in the Upper west Akyim district of the Eastern region of Ghana.
Future expansion into snail farming (heliculture) and vegetable farming.
As a new entrant into the agricultural space, we are undertaking a lot of research to better position ourselves in the market.
